Review: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

1

I thought we'd shake this up with this review.  See, I (Squid) pre-ordered Red Orchestra 2 the instant it was available for purchase on Steam.  Had to.  I've been a fan since the original Red Orchestra mod came out for Unreal Tournament 2004.  It won best mod two years in a row and I've been ...

Section 8: PS3 Review

2

I know the term "hardcore" is thrown around a lot in the gaming community, often with negative connotation, but there's really no other way to describe Section 8 other than hardcore.  It eats other "hardcore" first person shooters for breakfast. Any seasoned FPS gamer with countless hours of Halo and Modern Warfare play under their belt, ...

Evony Review

Ah, Evony. My shame-game. I first learned of it through their horrible ad campaign. I’m sure readers have come across them as well and immediately had an adverse reaction as I did. In case any of you haven’t seen their banner ads around, let me just post a few examples…

Review: Dragon Age: Origins

0

I bought Dragon Age for two reasons. The first was that I was bored with what I was playing when we didn’t have enough people to get a game of Left 4 Dead 2 going (which will heretofore be referred to as Left 4 Dead; the original no longer exists in my mind, a sentiment ...

PixelJunk Shooter Review

Oh, PixelJunk, how I love thee. For those unfamiliar, PixelJunk is a DLC-only series for the PS3 from developer Q-Games. The series focuses on taking popular (and often over done) gameplay mechanics and throwing in a twist. The first game in the series, PixelJunk Racer, may not have been earth shattering but it certainly was different. ...

Rageometer:  (2/5) I finally played Left 4 Dead 2 for the first time the other night.  I know, it’s been out for a few days and I already had a preorder.  But hey, I’ve been busy, so get off it.  Anyhow, I think the game is an immense improvement over its predecessor (which is saying something ...

Reviews In Review — MW2 Edition

3

Every now and again I'm going to pick apart some game reviews to show how reviewers today, more often than not, are hurting gaming. For this inaugural edition, I'll examine that elephant in the room crapped out by Bobby Kotick and Co. known as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Rageometer: 5/5 The PS3 and 360 versions' ...

IGN, why have you forsaken me?

Rageometer: (3/5)

For years, I’ve used IGN as my gaming reviews site. It’s not my favorite site. To be fair, that honor goes to 1Up but 1Up is a smaller group. They don’t cover everything. IGN has always been the “catch-all”. They may not be quite as rigid as 1Up but they are “fair” with their reviews. Games generally fall in the range of 70%-80%. Course, I don’t base my opinion on a review’s given grade…

Rageometer: (4/5) "The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games." -Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard, Inc. - President and CEO Let's get this out of the way right now: Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward ...
