It’s official. Vince Zampella and Jason West, former Activision heads who jumped ship last month (March), have been picked up by EA. They’ll be forming a new studio called Respawn Entertainment with Zampella as General Manager.

So those are the facts. Now for the opinion. I can’t help but think, since Zampella and West left Activision due to lose of creative control, that their choice to join EA was based soley on promise of just that, creative control over whatever project they take on. Of course it could just be money. EA has a lot of it and these two have done wonders together before so Electronic Arts probably threw cash at them with shovels. Still I think  if Zampella and West had only cared about money they would have stayed on board at Activision and ridden the poop-ferry that is now the COD franchise all the way down river. I’ll bet the contract they signed had some very specific clauses regarding intellectual property ownership and veto power.

But who knows. Money makes the world go round, right?

Oh, and I’ve totally got their logo already done for them.
