I am a recording engineer by day and a gamer by night.  Actually, I'm often a recording engineer by night as well.  And come to think of it, I'm sometimes a gamer by day.

Let me start over:

I work as a recording engineer and, despite how angry they can make me, I love video games.  Though I've been mostly a PC gamer since about the end of DOS/beginning of Windows 3.1, I am no stranger to other platforms.  The ones I can remember having owned are (in somewhat chronological order):

  • Atari 2600
  • NES
  • Super NES
  • Game Boy
  • Sega Genesis
  • Game Gear
  • PC
  • Nintendo 64
  • Game Cube
  • Game Boy Advance
  • XBox 360

If forced to choose, I'd say that FPS titles are my bread 'n butter, with RTS as a close second.  I can't stand playing an FPS on a console (unless it's GoldenEye of course), so my 360 is relegated to 3rd person games.  Unlike Squiddy and Scrimshaw, I generally do not have the patience for RPGs and am very proud to say I've never played an MMO.  Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It’s come to this: DICE hiring Anti Cheat Administrator

If you've put any significant amount of time into Battlefield 3's multiplayer, chances are pretty good you've encountered some cheating.  I'm not just talking about exploits (like those jerks who ride MAVs to get to nearly-impossible-to-defeat positions), but straight up game-ruining hackers.  It used to be you just had to worry about wallhacks or aimbots, ...

Unsubstantiated rumor that I want desperately to be true: Rocksteady’s next project is TMNT

0

If the rumor mill is to be trusted -- and it rarely is -- we should be on the look out for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game from Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City developers Rocksteady Studios.  The rumor is being reported by a number of outlets, and seems to have originated with Paul Gale ...

Warp coming to XBLA February 15, PSN and PC March 13

Sci-fi puzzle game Warp was recently given a February 15 release date as part of Xbox Live Arcade's House Party, but yesterday developer Trapdoor Inc. announced via Twitter that their little orange extraterrestrial hero will also be making his way to the PlayStation Network as well as PC -- on both Origin (where it's already up for ...

Apparently you need “readers” in order to be credited with discovering a newsworthy item

Some of you may remember my triumphant return to angry blogging from a little over three weeks ago. We laughed, we cried, we speculated -- so imagine my surprise when I awoke this morning and checked in on the Tweety Box to find a post from the good folks at PC Gamer that looked like this:   Talk ...

A mid-week haiku for Nintendo

Glasses-free 3D! Thank you, early adopters. Oops, forgot this bit.

Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated. Also, a LucasArts job opening!

Well, this is a little awkward. It's been a while, I know, but I thought it might be nice to try to pick up where we left off.  You see, my job sent me out of the warm embrace of urban living for the summer months, forcing me into a land bereft of not just gaming, ...

PAX East Final Impressions

The Penny Arcade Expo is a massive event with much to see.  Even media outlets with large teams aren't able to cover everything in-depth.  Being as there are only three of us and we’re not earning an income from this site, we’ll only be writing substantial articles on the things that made the biggest impressions ...

Dead Island trailer feeds on brains, tugs at heartstrings

I don't know about you, but for me the recent Battlefield 3 teaser and subsequent gameplay trailer sort of redefined how excited a game trailer/teaser can get me.  The thing is, BF3 is a game I and many many others have been anxiously awaiting for what seems like an eternity, so that took a lot ...

Battlefield 3 gameplay trailer, no further headline necessary

0

Just a warning, it's much more "teaser" than "trailer," but if you flip that magical "1080p" switch and get your crazy little fingers poised over the pause button, you're in for what looks to be some of the most impressive visuals ever to grace your humble monitor. Time to start saving for an upgraded ...

Battlefield 3 site is live, teaser will make you feel things in your naughty bits [Updated]

Okay, so the latter part of my headline might be more anecdotal than factual, but, in my defense, it's been a very very long time since I've wanted to play a game as badly as I want to play Battlefield 3.  We've had hints and allusions to what's going to make it into the "true ...
