Antilles C. Scrimshaw

Antilles C. Scrimshaw I am a history geek of exceptional proportions, and am now working on my Masters Degree in Military History.  It’s no small wonder that I find the time to dedicate to writing this nonsense, let alone actuallyplay video games.  Though I suppose being unemployed and thus a full time student means I need to find something to unwind, even if it sometimes makes me come a bit unraveled instead.  I’ve gamed to varying extremes throughout my life, and am a big fan of the RTS, RPG, and FPS genres in particular, and the PC is my platform of choice (I have a Wii, but mostly only use it for Smash Brothers and FIFA Soccer).  Other than the early builds of Star Wars: Galaxies, I have only limited experience with MMOs.  I think I am perhaps best known for my enjoyment of games that are generally considered rather tedious (yes, I actually enjoyed Star Wars: Rebellion).  I am also entirely incapable of creating an evil or even morally ambiguous character in an RPG.  This means I tend to miss out on about half of every RPG.  What can I say, I guess I’m just a nice guy… Oh, and the "C." is silent. PC Specs: AMD 5000+ BE (OC to 3 GHz), 2 GB Corsair DDR800 RAM, Western Digital 130 GB HD, 2x BFG 8800 GTX OC2, Sound Blaster X-Fi Gamer, Thermaltake 850 Watt PSU, Thermaltake Mozart case (aka "the minifridge"). "The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life." - Theodore Roosevelt ACScrimshaw@3angrygamers.com

Angry gamers are ruining gaming?

0

That's right folks, apparently the Community Manager for Treyarch, Josh Olin, believes that the "negativity" coursing through the veins of the video game world is bad for gaming innovation.  Here's a full quote, from an article over at Nowgamer.com: Personally, as a community manager who lives in the media or social media world every day, I ...

A Nerd’s Quest for the Elder Scrolls

0

Found via Kotaku, this little cartoon pretty much sums up the average Elder Scrolls fanboy.  I'll admit, I'm one of them, as I've been playing Oblivion almost non-stop of late.

Rediscovering my gaming past, Nintendo style.

0

Recently, I had the pleasure of playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on Super Nintendo (it was the Super Mario All Stars version).  I remember playing it both on the SNES and the original Nintendo when I was a kid, but once I found the warp whistles that was basically the only way I ever played ...

Company of Heroes Designer Brian Wood killed in car accident.

A news report about the death of Company of Heroes Designer Brian Wood, who was tragically killed by an intoxicated 21 year old (as were two of the other vehicle's passengers).  Our most heartfelt wishes go out to his family, particularly the child that will never know his/her father. I think the video speaks for itself. Visit ...

CoD: Black Ops gives us dedicated servers… with conditions.

0

As I was perusing Kotaku I came upon an article regarding the dedicated server situation for COD: Black Ops.  Seeing that the article came from IGN originally, I jumped over there to take a look at the entire post.  Now, it's no secret that The Angry Three are no fans of MW2's complete lack of ...

Why the Taliban in the Medal of Honor is a non-issue.

Ok, let me start this off by saying I have nothing but respect and admiration for the American soldier (or sailor, marine, or airman, as the case may be).  I'm working on a Masters Degree in Military History, with my focus on American military history.  Reading about the experiences of American soldiers throughout history has ...

Induced Rage: Rogue Warrior

0

It’s been a bit slow for us on the rage front.  Due to a combination of school work (for me), regular work (for Squid), and the flood of business for his gay escort business (Mack), as well as few games or scandals to get excited about, we haven’t had a great deal to provide you, ...

XFX Radeon 5970… in a gun shaped case?

0

I caught this over on The Firearm Blog (a good site for firearms news, if you're into that stuff). I quite honestly have no idea what demographic XFX is going for with their Radeon 5970 here.  As if the gun bag itself doesn't seem strange, the plastic gun-shaped carrier for the card itself is just plain ...

Star Wars: The Old Republic will feature space combat… a la Rebel Assault?

0

This month's (the October issue... go figure) cover story at everyone's favorite gaming magazine, PC Gamer, focuses on the announcement of space combat in BioWare's up-coming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic .  While I certainly think the entire concept of this game is interesting, I for one have a hard time equating the Star Wars ...

Valve as “Kingmakers?”

0

While browsing through Kotaku today, I ran across a short article about how a Steam sale saved small developer Introversion (makers of Darwinia, Defcon, and others).  It was an interesting article, and it's nice to see this particular developer saved from closing its doors, but the final paragraph irked me. But for everyone else...Valve may be ...
