Off Topic: US-Algeria Match at the World Cup
In case you missed it, the US pounded the Algerian goal for 90 minutes with little success (unless you want to count that perfectly valid goal that was disallowed for a bogus offsides call). It wasn’t until the 91st minute that the US caught the break it needed and got the goal it deserved. If you missed it, here it is:
Ian “Oh it’s incredible!” Darke is the British announcer, and I absolutely love how into it he is. He should be the announcer for every sporting event on the planet. (EDIT: They took down the original video I had posted here of the goal, so you probably can’t hear Darke in this video. You can see the ESPN “Speed Match” with the original commentary here) This one might be even better. You don’t see the goal or even a TV, but you get to watch the gamut of emotions that these fans (much like myself) ran through leading up to Donovan’s play:
I like how the guy at the bottom right of the video realizes it’s a goal a good half second before the rest of the crowd. He doesn’t react to Dempsey’s miscue, only to Donovan’s shot.
I don’t mind telling you, I was going to be absolutely furious if we didn’t win with yet another disallowed goal. Instead, Donovan gave us a Disney ending (albeit only for the first round). Let’s see how they do against Ghana…
UPDATE: Someone put together a compilation video of reactions to the goal from all over the US. The kid that’s about halfway through is absolutely priceless.

Hey, hey.
I’ve been lurking ’round this forum a lot so thought I’d introduce myself.
